The Licence to Occupy is very similar to a Licence to Occupy on Maori land where you will own the house but Ngā Potiki Trust will retain ownership of the land.
This option is offered as a way to provide Ngā Potiki members with “secure tenure” in otherwords a home for life, which is more secure than renting and is still affordable because you don’t have to purchase the land.
As this is a novel approach to providing subsidised housing there will be specific legal and financial arrangements that will need to be developed to provide for this. Ngā Potiki will also retain a right of first refusal to purchase your house should you wish to sell at some time in the future. Please note you will not be able to register unless you are also an adult registered member of Ngā Potiki. CLICK HERE to register with Ngā Potiki.
